You’ve probably heard of Youtube before and that’s because Youtube has been dominating the internet for the last couple of years since its launch in 2005. It has over 2 billion users worldwide and will surely continue to grow in the future.

What makes it interesting you ask? Well, this article will teach you all the ways you can use Youtube and how to use it.

Youtube is a video sharing website where users, like you, can upload content to share with others and possibly make money out of it. It’s currently the dominating platform for online videos with over 100 hours of videos being uploaded every minute so you’ll surely have something to watch. You like watching adorable cats? Youtube has LOADS of them! Having difficulty trying to learn Math? Don’t worry, Youtube’s got your back! Want to be entertained for HOURS? Youtube is the place for that!

For desktop:

  • On the browser, open the Youtube website
  • Click the Sign In button on the top right
  • Enter your Google email address and password
  • Hit Next

For mobile:

  • Download the Youtube app on Google Play store (for android) or Apple Store (for iPhone)
  • Open the app
  • If you have synced your Google account on your device, you just need to sign in. Click the icon on the top right and click Sign In
  • Enter your Google email address and password
  • Hit Next

First, you need to make a video. You can use your phone or laptop to record and edit your own videos (depending on the content).

There are a LOT of editing videos out there for PC and I recommend using Adobe Premiere Pro. This is a tier 1 editing app for me.

For mobile, there are a lot of free softwares out there that you can use. I found out that Quik is an easy-to-use video editing mobile app that is free to use. It’s also available for both Google Play and Apple Store.

Once you’ve done editing your video, you can upload your video by clicking on the “+” icon at the bottom navigation bar (for mobile). You can also click your profile picture (which is on the upper right corner), go to your Youtube studio and click the Upload Video button (for desktop).

  • On the Search, type out the name of the Youtube channel you want to subscribe to
  • Click the search icon
  • On the search list, you will be able to see the Youtube channel that you typed out. Tap the Subscribe button to be subscribed to them.

All hail the king of Youtube!

If you’re tired of seeing videos from a certain Youtube channel, you can mute them by clicking the ellipsis or the three dots beside the title of the video and hit the Don’t recommend channel button.

Autoplay is a feature on Youtube where a new video will automatically play after you watch a video. This is a neat feature on Youtube where you can discover new content based on Youtube’s recommendations and will also lead you to endless videos to binge watch on.

Keep in mind that autoplay is turned on by default and if you’re tired of watching videos that automatically play which you aren’t interested in, you have the option to disable it. Here’s how:

For desktop:

  • When you’re watching a video, toggle off the Autoplay button on the Up next section that is on the upper right to disable autoplay.

For mobile users:

  • Tap on your profile picture that is on the upper right
  • Go to Settings
  • Click Autoplay
  • Toggle off Autoplay to disable it

If you like a certain video and want to watch it again some other day, you can save it by clicking the ellipsis or the three dots button under the video. You can click Save to Watch later and the video will be saved on your Watch later playlist on your library.

Or you can click Save to playlist if you already have an existing playlist you want the video to save to.

Creating a customized playlist on Youtube is pretty easy. Here’s how it can be done:

  • Go to the video that you want to add in a playlist
  • Under the video player, click on the Save button
  • You will be given a choice to save the video on Watch later or create your own playlist by clicking Create new playlist
  • Enter the name of the playlist you want it to have
  • If you want your playlist to be private, click on the Privacy button under the playlist name and select Private
  • You can view your newly created playlist on your Youtube homepage on the left side under the Watch later playlist.

Currently, you can’t download a Youtube video on your computer. You can, however, download a video on the Youtube app on your mobile device so you can watch it offline.

A lot of people prefer the dark theme on social media platforms because it’s easier on the eyes. Luckily, Youtube has this feature, too! You can access it through these steps:

  • Click on your profile picture on the upper right
  • Select Appearance
  • You will then be given three options: Use device theme, Dark theme, and Light theme. Tap Dark theme

For mobile:

  • Tap your profile picture that is on the upper right
  • Go to Settings
  • Click General
  • Toggle on the Dark theme

If you have a kid at home who constantly watches Youtube videos and don’t want them to stumble upon a matured content, or you just really don’t want to see mature videos on Youtube, here’s how to hide them:

For desktop:

  • Click on your profile picture on the upper right
  • Scroll down until you see the Restricted mode and then tap it
  • Click on the toggle button to activate restricted mode

For mobile:

  • Click on your profile picture on the upper right
  • Go to Settings
  • Tap General
