Visa has selected Wieden+Kennedy and Publicis Groupe as its global creative agencies of record.
The decision follows a review that Visa kicked off this summer. BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi, Visa’s former creative agencies, participated in the review. BBDO was named Visa’s lead global creative agency in 2012, while Saatchi & Saatchi led the brand’s creative account in Europe.
Visa will continue to work with Publicis-owned Starcom, which was named the credit card brand’s media agency in 2015.
In a LinkedIn post, Visa chief marketing and communications officer Lynne Biggar said Wieden+Kennedy will lead Visa’s creative strategy and major initiatives, while Publicis Groupe and its “holding company capabilities” will “continue to be responsible for global media, and add to its remit production and support for our hyperlocal work.”
Wieden+Kennedy’s Portland office will lead the account, according to a person familiar with the win.
“Accelerating business for and with our customers means we’re always innovating and pushing forward—exploring new ways to meet evolving needs to achieve impactful outcomes,” Biggar wrote in her LinkedIn post. “Our brand and business ambitions warrant having Wieden+Kennedy and Publicis Groupe partner together to expand our brand platform by combining both best-in-class creative and global execution expertise.”
She thanked BBDO for its “long-standing partnership with Visa over the past many years.” BBDO has created several campaigns for Visa, much of it related to the Olympics.
“We appreciate the contributions they have made to our brand and business across our global footprint,” Biggar added.
