More than 50,000 creators around the world are getting access to badges for their Instagram Live videos.
Instagram is also expanding its beta test of ads on its IGTV long-form video destination to more creators in the U.S.
Badges enable creators to monetize their videos and strengthen their connections with fans.
Fans who pay for badges will see them displayed next to their comments during videos and give them other benefits, such as addition to the creator’s list of badge holders and access to a special heart.
Starting in November, Instagram will temporarily match earnings from badges to help boost creators on its platform.
An Instagram spokesperson said, “We want Instagram to be the best place for creators to tell their story, grow their audience and make a living. This is another step forward in our vision to build a suite of tools that help creators make money through branded content, shopping, content monetization, and direct support from fans.”
Badges will be extended to more creators globally as Instagram continues to test the feature and gather feedback.
Girl CEO founder and CEO Ronne Brown said in a statement, “As a working mother of four during a particularly crazy time, badges in Live has been an amazing tool for me to make money from home, just using my cellphone. I spent a lot of time going Live on Instagram before, so to be able to monetize the content I was already creating in a way that feels natural has been a game changer for me.”
Creator Young Ezee added, “I honestly love badges. It’s made my followers and I feel like we actually know each other. It’s like we are one big lit family.”
