There is no way for you to not know what Youtube is!

The iconic red box with a white play button is a source of both entertainment and income for the majority of the public.

Individuals that post videos on Youtube may vary from vloggers to educational videos. While businesses’ videos vary from brand/product introduction to tutorial videos.

Videos that are posted on Youtube also have a higher chance to appear on Google’s first page, which is very beneficial especially for businesses. I mean, who doesn’t want to appear on Google’s first page if you want publicity?

So if you want to get your hands dirty in some Youtube business, keep reading and let me tell you how do you post on Youtube!

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s talk about some myths and facts about being a content creator on YouTube.

#1. You Need to Invest Thousands Of $$ to Get Started

NO! No, you don’t.

As it’s a video sharing platform, yes you do need a camera that can record a video but you do not need to spend thousands of your hard-earned money to buy the latest camera that exists in the market and use it once in a blue moon.

For simple videos, your phone should be more than enough. If you’re a business that wants to make a professional, high-quality video, you can hire experts that have the equipment and skills to do it and should be cheaper than purchasing the equipment yourselves.

#2. You Need to Be Popular Before Starting a YouTube Channel

Again, no.

Not entirely, to be exact.

If your purpose is to get millions of subscribers, then yes you need to be popular. But for companies that post tutorial videos and such, you don’t need to have a million subscribers.

People will still watch your videos because they need it so that they can operate your product.

And another upside here, you can always build your popularity.

Got to make a start somewhere, right?

The easiest step that you have to start with, create a Google and Youtube account.

Some of you might not know this but Youtube is owned by Google.

And like any other website, when you want to post something, you need to create an account. To create an account, you need an email address to start with.

So first, create a Gmail account to be used as an email address when you register for Youtube.

Once you’re registered to both, you can customize your page with your logo, pictures, or pretty much anything.

Try to make your page pretty and pleasing to look at!

You need to also update your ‘About’ page.

This section is where you need to write up a short description of who you are or who your company is.

It’s a page where other people can read who you are and contact you if they want to do a collaboration or something along the line.

Once you’ve set up your Youtube page so that it is both attractive and informative, you need to decide what video you’re going to post!

Keep an eye on the format of your videos because Youtube only accepts the following formats: MOV, MPEG4, MP4, AVI, WMV, MPEG-PS, FLV, 3GPP, WebM, DNxHR, ProRes, CineForm, HEVC (h265).

For a first video, post something that introduces who you are or what kind of company you are.

Similar to socializing with strangers, you need to introduce yourself before explaining why you like grapes and have a dream of opening a grape juice company.

You can post videos up to 15 minutes long, any longer than that (less than 12 hours) you have to verify your account first.

Unless your video is a movie, keep the duration short and simple.

Consider making a video playlist with a series of episodes with different topics so that it’s not too ‘heavy’ for your audiences.

Add subtitles with other languages too if necessary for your international subscribers!

You also need to decide if the content has any age restriction (kids are 13 years old and under).

You do not want your video to be reported and taken down by Youtube just because you forgot to put an age restriction.

Once you set up your Youtube page and choose an introductory video, you need to start uploading other videos too.

For introductory video or teaser video, your title is probably something simple.

But as you post more videos, you need to be more and more creative with your titles and thumbnails. But why?

For example, if you’re given two videos to watch with the title ‘Posting Videos On Youtube’ and “3 Easy Steps In Mastering Youtube”, which title would you choose first?

If you’re the same as the majority, you are more inclined to click the second title. Why?

In your mind, you might think, wow it’s only 3 easy steps compared to who knows how complicated the other video will be (even though both videos have the same duration).

Another thing to keep an eye on, thumbnail!

The title is not the only thing that makes or breaks the decision of your viewers.

A thumbnail shares a small snippet of what your video is about. It’s generally a snapshot of scenes in the video.

You want to click it right away, don’t you?

Ever heard of a saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’? Most of us still do anyway, and that goes with videos as well.

People judge a video by its “cover”, in this case, YouTube thumbnails. Therefore, a lot of YouTubers use clickbait thumbnails.

Its purpose is to attract the viewers’ attention, which causes them to click on your video.

Last but not least, make sure your videos do not have any content that breaches any copyright license.

Being sued and got a cease and desist letter is the last thing you want at any stage of your life.
