Methodology for choosing project management software

When it comes to choosing the best project management software, there are three areas that we looked to in order to determine if it made the list. These are just the most common needs that we know teams are looking for—that’s why we prioritized them in this list. 

Scheduling

In order to manage a project effectively, managers and teams need to be able to take a look at their goals and tasks for the day, weeks, and months ahead. Only then will they be able to plan and prioritize effectively. 

Each of the software we recommended above can do that. The differences are miniscule and only impact the interface. For example, some like Trello prefer that Kanban-style method, while others like Monday.com have the timeline view. It just comes down to a matter of preference in the end. 

Collaboration

Teams need to be able to work together on project management systems. If not, there’s not really a point to them, is there? If you aren’t able to see what tasks are assigned to what person, as well as the deadlines and expectations for those tasks, you’re not going to be able to complete projects effectively.
