As a preliminary step, you’ll need to decide what you’re going to sell, along with what you’re going to name your store. You might also want to create a shop logo, although you don’t need one to get started selling online.
Once you have that basic information, it’s time to set up your Wix E-commerce store. Here’s a step by step guide to get you selling in 15 minutes.
1. Sign Up with Wix (1 Minute)
First, you need to create a Wix account. Just go to the Wix website and click “get started.”
Wix gives you the option to sign in with a Facebook or Google account, or you can sign up directly with your email address and a password. Any of these options will work for your E-commerce store.
Keep in mind that it’s free to sign up with Wix, but you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan if you want to start selling.
Fortunately, Wix offers four tiers of paid plans at affordable prices. Wix refers to its paid plans as “premium plans.”
The most affordable premium plan is the “business basic.” For $23 per month, you get free domain hosting for one year, 20GB of storage, unlimited bandwidth, and the ability to accept online payments. Wix will also remove all of its ads from your site.
If you’re not quite ready to upgrade to a premium plan, that’s not a problem. You can still build your E-commerce store with Wix for free.
This gives you the ability to test out the design tools, see what the finished product will look like, and explore the user dashboard before you buy. You can always upgrade to a premium plan when you’re ready.

2. Start Your New Site Build (1 Minute)
Once you’re logged in, you’ll see an option to create a new site. This includes both regular websites and E-commerce sites.
Click the blue box that says “+create new site” to start building your E-commerce shop. Once you click, you’ll be taken to a series of questions. These questions are designed to “teach” Wix what kind of website you’re looking for.
For example, when Wix asks you what kind of website you want to create, you’ll want to select “online store.”
This is also where Wix will ask if you want to create your site using the Wix Editor, or if you prefer letting the Wix ADI tool do it for you.
Given that your goal is to create an E-Commerce site as quickly as possible, it makes sense to let the ADI tool handle the site design.
Generally, the ADI tool offers less flexibility when it comes to designing your E-commerce store. On the other hand, you’ll still get opportunities to change design elements so you can make your site your own.
Additionally, the Wix ADI tool works by tailoring designs to specific types of stores. For example, if you’re creating a store to sell glasses, the ADI tool is smart enough to know what kinds of designs work best for those kinds of products. By contrast, if you want to run an online bakery, the ADI tool will show you designs made specifically for your industry.
Best of all, however, the ADI tool is fast. If your goal is to start selling as quickly as possible, it’s a sure bet.
By contrast, the Editor offers more autonomy in the design process but a great deal less automation. Rather than creating a complete website, the Editor relies on the user to select a theme as a base and then fill it in using drag and drop tools.
If you want to get set up so you can start selling right away, the ADI tool can make it happen.
3. Answer the ADI Tool Questions (2 Minutes)
Once you’ve decided to let the ADI tool take over building your site, the system will continue asking you questions. This allows the tool to determine the most effective design for the type of store you’re setting up.
The design tool will ask what kind of shop you’re creating, along with any features you think you might need. For example, you can add a blog, an about page, pricing plan info, and more.
Scroll through the options and check the boxes on the features you want to appear on your site. Don’t stress about this too much at this point. You can always go back later and add more features if you’re not sure what you need right now.
Additionally, there will probably be features you don’t need. For example, unless you run a restaurant or food-related business, you most likely won’t need a “bookings” or “menus” feature.
4. Pick a Theme (1 Minute)
Next, Wix will show you a selection of theme styles. This will assist the ADI tool in choosing a theme that fits your store.
For purposes of this tutorial, assume you’re starting an E-commerce store that sells jewelry. Think about the types of products you sell and what a store for your type of merchandise might look like.
What will customers expect to see when they visit your online shop? Are you selling handmade jewelry with more of a Boho feel? Or will your shop sell fine jewelry that features gemstones and high-end metals? Choose a theme that complements the type of products you intend to sell.
Remember that you can always change design elements. Don’t select a theme based on colors or fonts. These are easy to customize down the road.
5. Select a Homepage Design (2 Minutes)
Next, choose a homepage design. If you were building a house, this would be the curbside view. It’s the first page customers will see when they visit your site, so you want to make sure it’s attractive and easy to navigate.
When choosing a homepage design, focus on the overall layout rather than details like colors, photos, or fonts. Wix sites are known for being highly customizable, and you can change just about anything to suit your needs.
6. Customize Your Store (2 Minutes)
Good news! You’re ready to customize your new E-commerce store. Once you select a homepage design, the ADI tool will automatically generate your entire E-commerce website.
This shows just how powerful the ADI tool is. With some input from you, the tool can produce a fully functional website in seconds.
At this stage, you don’t need to spend a lot of time on customization. One of the advantages of building an E-commerce store with Wix is the ability to make quick and easy changes as your store grows and evolves.
This is your opportunity to customize your store. In this sitebuilding phase, just about everything you see can be changed.
To make edits, just click on that area on the site. For example, if you click the header, this will open a menu on the left side of your screen. Within that menu, you’ll see several options for customizing your site’s header. You can add a store logo, a phone number, links to social media, and more.
Repeat this process in various sections around the main page. Each time you click on an area, you should see a customization menu.
Work your way around the main page, exploring the various sections and features. Depending on which kind of theme and homepage you chose, the design elements may look slightly different from site to site.
For now, focus on the big picture details. This includes things like your store’s name and basic info. Your ADI-generated site will include placeholder copy so you can see how it will appear to visitors. You should replace this copy with text that applies to your store.
7. Add Products (2 Minutes)
For this step, you’ll stay in the customization view. Your E-commerce site should include an area with “dummy” or placeholder products. These placeholder products are there so you can easily click on them and change them to actual products you’ll sell in your store.
Depending on the design you chose, the placeholders will be located in a variety of areas. Regardless of the overall design, however, you should see a section for products on the homepage.
When you find it, hover over it until a menu overlay appears. This overlay will include a button that says “manage.”
This will open up your user dashboard, which is where you can add individual products. At first glance, the dashboard might appear overwhelming. There is a lot of information here, and you can make changes to multiple parts of your E-commerce store from the dashboard.
For right now, however, you should just focus on getting products added to your store. The other elements will fall into place later when you have more time.
To add a product, find the section that says “add your first product” and then click “add a product.”
Your Wix store design will already have some placeholder product listings in the dashboard. These are there so you can easily click one and change the information to reflect a real product you want to sell.
You can replace the photo, change the type (physical or digital), swap out the dummy SKU for a real one, and manage the inventory. This is also where you’ll add a product description, including the size and color, if applicable.
It’s best to be as descriptive as possible, so take advantage of the various boxes to add as many details as you can. Put yourself in the consumer’s shoes. What does a shopper want to know before they make a purchase? Try to anticipate your customers’ questions. This increases your likelihood of making sales.
If you prefer to add products manually, you can do that too by clicking the box that says “+ new product.” This will pull up a fresh product listing where you can add all the same information as you would for one of the placeholder product listings.
When you’re done adding a product, make sure you click “save.” This adds the product to your store so shoppers can see it.
8. Customize Your Cart (1 Minute)
Every E-commerce store needs a virtual shopping cart. Just like a cart in a physical store, this is where customers can see all of their selected items at a glance.
Because you used the ADI tool, your Wix site will automatically generate a shopping cart. This gives you a starting point for your cart design, which makes it easier to launch your store in minutes.
However, you’ll still want to make sure your cart is functioning properly and set up the way you want it.
To edit your shopping cart features, click on the “Page Home” button at the top of your homepage design. This will bring up a menu called “Manage Pages.” Scroll until you find “cart” and then click on it. From here, you can manage how the cart will appear to shoppers.
9. Set Up Shipping and Payment Methods (2 Minutes)
Finally, you should review the settings for both shipping and payment. When it comes to shipping, you’ll need to decide if you want to accept payments from overseas — which means you’ll also need to ship products to other countries.
Some E-commerce store owners get around this by only selling to customers located in the United States.
To change your shipping settings, go to the dashboard. From there, you’ll see a menu item labeled “set up shipping regions.”
When you click on “set up shipping regions,” you’ll be taken to a screen that allows you to modify the settings for both U.S. and international destinations. For example, you can offer free shipping, or you can choose to calculate shipping by weight, flat rate, or using real-time calculations from the Postal Service.
Once you’re satisfied with your shipping settings, you should repeat this step for your payment settings.
To modify your payment options, go to the dashboard and find “set up payment methods.”
This is where Wix makes getting paid easy. You can choose from a range of options, including credit card payments, PayPal, Wix point of sale payments, and more.
If you choose to accept credit card payments, Wix does the behind the scenes work for you.
When you allow credit card payments in your E-commerce store, Wix provides protection to both buyers and sellers. Wix also accepts all major credit cards. As a seller, you’ll pay 30 cents plus 2.9 percent per transaction as a fee.
10. Launch Your E-commerce Store (1 Minute)
Finally, you’re ready to launch your E-commerce store. To do this, close out the dashboard and then click the “publish” button. This should be located in the upper right hand corner.
After you click “publish” Wix will ask whether you want to publish on a free Wix domain or a custom domain. Keep in mind that you can’t accept online payments through a free Wix domain. This means you’ll need to purchase a custom domain and pay for hosting.
The good news is Wix offers a free domain when you sign up for a premium plan for your hosting. This helps cut costs so you can focus on launching your business and turning a profit as soon as possible.
